Michelle recieved her Ph.D. candidate in Sociology and Social Policy in 2013 and is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota.
Her research is in the sociology of punishment, focusing in particular on the punitive turn in the U.S. Her research has been published in Law & Society Review (2011) and the Journal of Criminal Justice (2012). This work was supported by a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship from the Department of Education and a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation.
