James Lindley WilsonPolitics, PhD Candidate
130 Corwin Hall |
James Lindley Wilson is a fourth-year graduate student in the Politics Department and a Graduate Prize Fellow at the University Center for Human Values. Jim's current research focuses on democratic theory and constitutionalism. In his dissertation, Finding Time for Democracy, he argues that political equality requires a fair allocation of political control across time as well as between citizens at any given time. This thought, he suggests, sheds light on a number of puzzles in democratic theory, involving the identity and persistence of the people over time, the relationship between individual political liberties and the self-government of the people, the nature of democratic representation, and the justification of constitutionalism and judicial review. Jim's law-related interests include constitutional law and theory, election law, administrative law, and the relationship between domestic institutions and international law-making. In 2008, he won the Association for Princeton Graduate Alumni Excellence in Teaching Award. Jim holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and an A.B. summa cum laude in Social Studies from Harvard University.
