Jamie Mayerfeld (Ph.D., Princeton University), Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Washington, is a political theorist whose primary interests lie in theories of justice, democracy, and human rights. He is the author of Suffering and Moral Responsibility (Oxford U. Press, 1999) and various articles about the duty to relieve suffering, human rights, and nationalism. His current research is aimed at identifying the institutional arrangements needed to secure the more effective protection of human rights around the world. His two most recent articles, published in Human Rights Quarterly and the Finnish Yearbook of International Law, examine the potential contribution made to this goal by the International Criminal Court. In 2000 Professor Mayerfeld was a Human Rights Teaching Fellow at Columbia Law School.
