LAPA accorded official observer status at United Nations Conference on Human Rights
Associate Director Leslie Gerwin attends inaugural session
The United Nations Human Rights Council's independent expert on minority issues invited LAPA to participate in the first annual forum on minority issues designed to provide a platform for promoting dialogue and cooperation on issues pertaining to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities. Held in Geneva on December 14-15, 2008, the UN accredited LAPA's Associate Director Leslie Gerwin as an expert observer to this year's conference on minorities' access to education. Gerwin, who served as Executive Director of a public education support and advocacy organization in New Orleans and a consultant to national education policy groups, attended the sessions and provided a report to the independent expert commenting on certain of the proposed recommendation and outlining issues associated with access to tertiary education.
